Gary L. Groelle Announces Bid for Rock County Sheriff’s Seat
It is with great pride and excitement that I am announcing my candidacy for Rock County Sheriff in 2018. With more than 35 years of law enforcement experience, all with the Rock County Sheriff’s Office, a strong educational background and unwavering integrity, I am very well prepared and capable to lead the Sheriff’s Office.
I currently serve the Rock County Sheriff’s Office as Captain in the Civil Process and Court Services Bureau. I’ve held the rank of Captain for the past eight years and have been a member of the command staff for the last 22 years.
My education includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice and a Master’s Degree in Highway Traffic Safety. I am also a proud graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in Quantico, VA. Graduates of the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy make up the highest 1% of all senior law enforcement officers. Our core values are “Knowledge, Courage and Integrity” (www.fbinaa.org).
If elected, a major issue I will address is the opioid epidemic affecting Rock County as well as the rest of our state and nation. I will work tirelessly in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies, the District Attorney’s Office, the Rock County Drug Abuse Task Force members, area health care advocates and community members to attack the opioid crisis that affects all of us. Rock County registered 210 deaths from opioids with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services from 2000-2016 with 33 deaths in 2016 alone. I will address our opioid epidemic through a combination of increased staffing, maximizing the skills of our officers and staff, and working with local agencies and addiction treatment centers.
Another area I will focus on is costly Justice Reform. To receive maximum benefit for limited tax dollars, the emphasis should be less and more effective options for some non-violent offenses.
I will always represent and demonstrate professionalism, transparency, integrity and ethical behavior that the citizens of Rock County can be proud of.
